NOMURA GROUP holds internships for students every year.
This year, three young planners will play a central role in the planning and implementation of the event.

―This year’s review process―
1. Issues of past events
(real/online)
Our internships, like the name of "work experience," are designed to incorporate content that is fairly close to practical work, and are characterized by being able to experience deeply. All the students act as employees of our company and work together as a team to come up with a plan and make a presentation. While our employees also give advice, in the end, we become the client and ask serious questions and give feedback.
For the five years until 2020, planners such as Mr. Hideki, Mr. Noda, Mr. Sakaki, and Mr. Yoshitake were in charge of planning, proceeding, and judging.

Planning an internship (Part 2)
Before the spread of the new coronavirus, I was able to actually visit the facility, give face-to-face advice while watching group work, and get close to the students with a close sense of distance.
You can see how each person works and the ingenuity they have by looking at their hands, and you can see who is contributing to the team by looking at the atmosphere. I think it was easy for students to share images and communicate with each other.
However, 2020 was the first time to be held online.
The following issues will occur.
Therefore, based on the method that Mr. Hideki and the people of the human resource development department devised, centering on the young members Yamada, Horii, and Morita, who had not been involved in internships until last year, we decided to create an actual “online venue.” I started from scratch to plan an internship in a space where there is no space.

2. Decide on a theme/issue for this year
The themes covered in the internship change every year.
There are a variety of things, from those that specify a specific location and have them plan it, to those that specify a fictitious space. During the two-day internship, which seems to be long but short, what kind of theme should be set so that students can participate more ``seriously'' and ``enjoyably''? I put out a lot of ideas for.
The theme idea and the approach to the theme are three people. Each thought comes and goes.
Since it's a big deal, I'll look back on the time when we all shared themes.
QWhat was the most important point when deciding on the theme?
Yamada
I was conscious of a theme that is not yet common in the world. For example, if you decide on a theme and decide on a purpose such as "commercial facility", "hotel", or "park", I would like to avoid making a proposal that looks like a facility that already exists in the world or is a "correct answer". rice field. I want you to start thinking about the definition of space itself.
Horii
I'm pretty much the same as Yamada. I thought it would be good to think together about the unanswered issues that we are facing at work right now.
Morita
I was worried about whether the theme would limit the ideas of the students and whether they would be able to demonstrate their talents. As Horii said, I also wanted to hear the pure opinions of the students, which would give me hints for the work I was involved in.
QWhere was the most difficult part from choosing the theme to finalizing it?
Horii
I worked hard to design a task that would allow students to demonstrate their full potential, such as asking for a wide variety of proposals to come out, and making sure there were no settings that would cause unnecessary stumbling blocks. We are the ones who are usually judged, so it was fresh in the sense that it was the perspective of the judging side.
Morita
That's right, it was difficult for the judging side (laughs).
Yamada
It looks like the three of us have something in common here. When I usually participate in competitions, I value reading and understanding the given, but it was difficult to think from the opposite point of view of the receiving side, so I learned a lot.
If the subject is too broad,
What should I start with?
difficult to tackle the task.
If the subject is too narrow,
Ideas are hard to spread.
I felt that this is something I face when I receive a request from a client.
We offer a wide range of services, from consultations such as "I have a place, but I don't know what to do!" to "We have decided on a place, target, and benchmark. We will contact you.
For us planners, one of our jobs is to come up with ways to realize the various requests of such clients. In terms of internships, students read and understand our requests.
Standing on the side of giving the given, I was reminded of the importance of the initial theme setting.
3. Decide on occupational tasks
Next, we decided on the tasks required for each of the occupations [Sales / Planning / Design / Director] that the students will play on the day.
“What should I do to let them know the role and worth of each job?”
While thinking about such things, we will notice what each person thinks of [Sales / Planning / Design / Director] should be.
Q.Is there anything that you were conscious of when setting the assignments for each occupation?
Yamada
Job-specific assignments are set up to be done by the person in charge, but in the sense that they play the role of leading discussions and compiling materials, rather than leaving everything to the person in that job, when working as a team I was conscious of the point of view that everyone should have. Specifically, time management and cost management.
Horii
Rather than being conscious of it, I reflected on the fact that it tended to be something like "the image of a director that planners want." I tried to think as flat as possible, but it's difficult...
Morita
I felt that it was difficult to verbalize the role of the job that the company requires and use it as an evaluation axis. Our company's occupations are not a complete division of labor type, and we often work while overlapping each area, so it is difficult to say clearly that "someone who only does XX".
If you look at each way of thinking, you will find that there are various requirements for each type of job. However, there seems to be a common awareness that each occupation overlaps and works together.
Four. Summarize planning know-how
And this time, in addition to setting the internship theme, we also created a lecture on planning know-how.
The major role of a planner is to “create” and “convey” plans.
First of all, what is a plan? Discuss how to create a plan.
What is the difference between planning and planning?
What is the difference between a general proposal and a “NOMURA Co., Ltd. proposal”? What kind of items and pages does the proposal consist of? What should I pay attention to when creating each page?
Since joining the company as a planner, when I think about it again, it's interesting and deep.
Even if I talk to Horii and Yamada, there are three different ways to understand and create proposals. In doing so, we organized common items and flows.
And how to present.
The number of online meetings has increased due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the way we give presentations has changed significantly.
This internship is online.
Communicate the sense of distance and points to note with clients that are unique to online meetings.
For example, even with the same material, the way it is conveyed face-to-face is different from the way it is conveyed online.
What should I do to make my clients interested in listening to me?
I summarized the points.
These contents are really jam-packed with the secrets of NOMURA Co., Ltd. 's planning and presentation.
It's a pity that I can't show it in this article, but if you're interested, please apply for an internship at NOMURA Co., Ltd.!
