In response to the spread of the new coronavirus, the government called for self-restraint for cultural arts and sports events on February 26. Cultural facilities such as museums and art galleries in various places have announced temporary closures one after another, and the extension of the closed period has been forced due to the "Emergency Declaration" issued in April.

As someone who works for a company that creates spaces to attract visitors, and whose job is mainly to plan exhibitions for museums and science museums, it was a difficult situation for me. The hardest part is that if there was a museum in front of me, I would go there under the guise of research and enjoy the exhibitions and events. However, more than that, I would like to thank the curators and staff of the museum, who deal with exhibits and materials on a daily basis for visitors, prepare the environment of the museum, and provide a variety of experiences such as special exhibitions and events. It's not hard to imagine how spicy it is.

Under such circumstances, various museums have begun to make elaborate efforts online. Introducing exhibits through videos, providing virtual tours of the museum, providing learning materials, communicating via SNS, etc. I am deeply moved by these efforts, which can be seen as the manifestation of the museum's thoughts that "I can't meet you yet, but museums are so much fun."

Hamamatsu Science Museum "Ouchi DE Miraira" Delivery

One thing I really want to tell you.
For me, who was attacked by the anxiety that I could not see the future due to the restrictions on going out in March, it was a light.
It is the Hamamatsu Science Museum's special event, "Ouchi DE Miraira".

"Ouchi DE Miraira" is a special project during the temporary closure of the Hamamatsu Science Museum where Miraira staff will introduce simple experiments and crafts that can be done at home every day.

"Ouchi DE Miraira" has been distributed almost every day since March 3, when the temporary closure began. As of today, April 19, when I am writing the manuscript, up to the 44th bulletin has been sent. Beginning with handicrafts and experiments that can be done with things around us, the themes expanded over time to include familiar nature observations and relationships with Hamamatsu's industry.

"Ue-chan" who appears in "Ouchi de Mirai-ra" and other staff members always talk to the viewers in a friendly and energetic way. The contents are glued to the eyes, saying, "Why is it curious?" There must be a secret to creating a place of learning that captivates what you see here. I thought about it a little.

3 secrets of creating a place for learning that you can feel from "Ouchi DE Miraira"

1.It doesn't tell me the "answer" or the "result".

First of all, a small story is shown before the main subject. The grip is perfect. The science that is hidden in everyday life will be shown while making your heart thump and nervous with actions that you can do even at home. Then he said, "I can't tell you the answer yet. Try it." "No! Let's try it," I was put on. One of the things you can do with things around you is this “throbbing and nervousness” that may be the point.

We often want to know the correct answer because we want to know the unit and principle of learning. I feel like you are showing me.
…of course, sometimes revealing the truth. It also points out the results of previous crafts and experiments. Such a continuous development is also one of the pleasures.

2. Editing with a sense of rhythm may be important.

There is also ingenuity in the editing method every time. The background music that matches the series, the occasional lively sound effects and telops, and the tasteful illustrations are combined with a live feeling that shows even the failure of the experiment, creating a short story that is slow and steady.

The closing is "Mata, tomorrow". This "notice" promise. I think it's very difficult to keep updating. That gave me a sense of security during this time.

3 The “feelings of wanting to entertain” are linked.

The characters in "Ouchi de Miraira" are the staff of the science museum. He talks to you with a smile as if you were right in front of him. What is it that makes you feel so warm?

They don't ask people to come to the science museum when it opens, and they don't even show them around. He gives us hints to make our daily life a little more interesting by looking at things around us and not exaggerating them as scientific experiments. You will be given plenty of tips for successful experiments, such as "Let's surprise the people around you" or "You can easily do it in the office".

Because of the cramped daily life, it will remain in your mind as a small scheme to make your daily life more enjoyable. The feeling of wanting to entertain someone came from the staff of the museum to each viewer, at least to me.

The place of learning is always open

It is said that from now on, the value of being realistic will increase even more, probably due to the inconvenience and crampedness of restricted behavior. Efforts that are born online may serve as a bridge to visit the museum. There is no end to the idea of museum exhibitions that will be questioned after the corona crisis is over, but I would like to create it from now on.

Just one thing to think about. ``Temporary closings and closings are just physically closed, but I wonder if they are actually open.'' Museums are one of the things that responds to the desire to learn and to know more, and I feel like I've now been able to confirm that science museums and museums all over the world are actually very close to us.
Also, when visiting museums, until now, people have been visiting museums out of curiosity, thinking, "If you go there, you'll understand something." In addition, there are also “familiar teachers” that you can meet if you go. Curiosity that everyone has, it should surely push the back.

However, I myself want to quickly say to the exhibits, "I finally met you."
