In November 2024, NOMURA Co., Ltd. held a company tour for junior and senior high school students at its headquarters.

NOMURA Co., Ltd., Ltd. offers its own original education programs for children and students as part of its activities to contribute to the development of the next generation of creative and engineering talent.

This company tour program was held with the aim of helping as many junior and senior high school students as possible to deepen their understanding of "working in society" and "work creating space" in order to contribute to the development of rich sensibilities for the next generation of junior and senior high school students who will be the future of the future. nomlog editorial staff, an editorial staff member in his second year at the company, spent a day closely following the program and reports on the day.

Program Overview

The company tour program was divided into three parts: for junior high school students (school groups), high school students (school groups), and high school students (individuals). Six students from Sakura Municipal Shizu Junior High School participated in the morning, and 30 students from Fukuoka Municipal Hakata Technical High School and three students who applied individually from a high school in Tokyo participated in the afternoon.

The morning and afternoon sessions began in the seminar room on the third floor of Building S, with a seminar-style "company introduction" by the Human Resources Development Department and "job introductions" by young employees from the Sales Promotion Headquarters and Creative Headquarters.

Afterwards, an "office tour" was held around the company, where the participants were able to see actual employees at work and learn about the appeal of NOMURA Co., Ltd. and the display industry.

Company Introduction

The three-part company tour program began with a company introduction by the Human Resources Development Department.
The lecture was easy to understand for junior and senior high school students and covered basic information about the display industry and the history of our company.

The junior high school students in the morning session were impressive, taking lots of notes and taking notes seriously, even though they were learning many unfamiliar words. On the other hand, the high school students who participated in the afternoon session were studying architecture, so I think they were able to deepen their understanding of our market and the type of work we do.

In both the morning and afternoon sessions, we held a quiz to explain the origins of our company and our role in creating spaces, and everyone participated enthusiastically.

I believe we were able to convey to the students that what NOMURA Co., Ltd. wants to deliver is a "happy space."

Job introduction by employees

After the company explanation, young employees introduced their actual work responsibilities.

In the junior high school (school group) category, Saki Kikuchi from the First Business Division of the Sales Promotion Headquarters and Takuro Nakano from the First Design Center of the Creative Headquarters took to the stage. In the high school (school group) category, Takuto Yoshida from the Cultural Environment Business Division of the Sales Promotion Headquarters and Mei Watanabe from the First Design Center of the Creative Headquarters took to the stage and gave talks from the perspectives of junior high school and high school students about the main jobs they have been involved in, how they spent their time as students, and what led them to join our company.

During the question and answer session following the lecture, questions such as "What is rewarding about your job?" and "What did you study in high school?" were asked.

When asked about the rewards of the job, Kikuchi answered that the best part of being in sales is that "as a salesperson, I can talk to each person and be there for them from start to finish on a project." When asked about what he studied in high school, designer Watanabe said, "I didn't study anything in particular, but I was in the art club and worked on creating a variety of pieces, and I think I've always liked making things related to space, like sculptures." The answers that corresponded to each job type made the students realize the significance of different jobs and roles even within the same company, and the students listened actively, taking notes and nodding.

Office Tour

At the end of each session, the participants had an office tour, which included the conference room floor "conferium," the community space "RESET SPACE_2," and the designer communication space on the 8th floor of Building S.

The junior high school students seemed excited and intrigued by the unfamiliar white conference room that stood out in the dark hallway, and even went so far as to sit in one of the empty conference room chairs.

After the tour, when asked what the most enjoyable part was, he answered enthusiastically, "The conference room!"

In the individual high school student section, since it was a quiet time between employee meetings, there was also an opportunity for participants to interact with the designers who were actually working in the communication space.

Also popular in every session was the remote conference booth surrounded by stuffed toys from "RESET SPACE_2." Students who actually went inside cheered and were impressed by the student-like comments they heard, such as "I want to do a live stream in here!" and "I want to take a TikTok video!"

By actually seeing and experiencing how our employees work and the space, the students' image of what it would be like to work gradually took shape, and their interest in the value provided by the spaces we create likely grew.

Conclusion - What is the “power of space”?

Although this company tour was short, we feel that it was an opportunity for the participating students to see and experience what it means to "work" up close and to gain a deeper understanding of NOMURA Co., Ltd. 's "work to create spaces."

As someone in my second year at the company, it was also an opportunity for me to think again about and feel the power of space.

The first thing I felt was the power that the space has to "relax" people's minds.

During the first lecture, the students were a little nervous about visiting the location and space of a company for the first time, but as they experienced the actual space on the office tour, they gradually began to talk more and their reactions became more enthusiastic.

I felt that a space that could produce emotions such as "What is this?", "Beautiful!" and "Interesting!" had the power to ease the students' tension and stimulate communication.

The other is the power to move forward in life, just like the push that gave me that push a few years ago.

As I watched the students taking part in the company tour, I was reminded of my own time before joining the company.

Since I was job hunting during the COVID-19 pandemic, all company information sessions and internships were held online. When I actually visited NOMURA Co., Ltd. for the first time for my interview and stepped into the "conferium" and "RESET SPACE," I felt many times more excited and thrilled than I had seen it on a screen.

I think it was the power of the space that allowed me to experience my aspirations for work in a real way. I remember being moved by the idea that the physical space of NOMURA Co., Ltd. had the power to make me imagine my future and move my life forward, more than any words, photos, or videos could.

During the company tour, the students cheered in various places around the building, which reminded me of myself before joining the company and reminded me of the power of space.

As an employee, I would be very pleased if this company tour was an experience that the students will remember when thinking about their own future.

Thank you to all the students who participated and everyone involved.
