In this paper, NOMURA GROUP (hereinafter referred to as Nomura) is working on BIM (Building Information Modeling, BIM)* with the aim of "reforming business processes" through the effects of "improving operational efficiency" and "front loading." I would like to introduce about
nice to meet you. This is Mayumi Tanabe, BIM room chief. Nomura launched the BIM Room in 2017. This year is the 4th year, and 9 people are currently enrolled. We are a bright team with a lot of women and strong communication skills.
What is BIM?
BIM creates a building information model that combines mainly three-dimensional geometric information created on a computer with attribute information of the building, such as the names and areas of rooms, specifications and performance of materials and components, and finishes.

The effect of using BIM on spatial production
Nomura is a company that mainly provides total support for "research/planning," "design/planning," "production/construction," and "operation/management" as a space production company. Although it is rare to build buildings, I believe that there are many effects that can be obtained from the use of BIM, just like in the construction industry.
"Improvement of work efficiency", "Acceleration of consensus building", "Front-loading to advance work", "Sharing and accumulation of data", "Adoption of computational design and digital fabrication (see related article)" etc. The introduction of BIM will change business processes.
Within the company, we are repeating the process of sharing examples that have been proven through projects, appealing the effectiveness of BIM, and gaining understanding and approval.
In the future, we aim to connect with new industries, create business opportunities, and contribute to the SDGs by creating a “Nomura-like BIM style” unique to a space production company.
We have launched an internal BIM portal site to promote the provision of information within the company and its effectiveness.
NOMURA Co., Ltd. 's "BIM Room" Four Activities
In the BIM Room, we mainly carry out four activities. These four activities interact and keep updating.
1.NOMURA BIM GUIDELINE
We have formulated our own original BIM guidelines. By entering modeling and information according to unified rules, you can make effective use of data.
The guidelines include the following items.
・Data handling rules (folder structure, file naming rules, data storage, etc.)
・"Sheet list" (types, numbers, etc. Classification unique to exhibition construction.)
・"DRAWING DEFINITION"
・"Classification" that defines items in detail and "Parameters" that can be reflected in the summary table.
・"Level of detail" (Defines the level of data detail in each phase, such as basic design and detailed design.)
・"BIM execution plan" format
・"BIM workflow" (Workflow templates are created for each project type.)
etc….
In addition, we have prepared the following BIM data.
・Original "Revit project template"
・Original "Revit Family" (Newly produced as needed to enrich content.)
・Sample project data ("Bookstore for children" is the theme.)

2. Education
Enlightenment activities such as "What is BIM?" and "Original Revit course" are being held. In particular, the "Revit Course Digest Edition" is a short course that mixes an overview of BIM and simple Revit operation methods, and is attended not only by designers and product directors, but also by accountants and planners.
The teaching materials are created by incorporating our company's guidelines, and the instructors are also BIM room members. By having members of the company act as instructors, project consultations after the course and questions and answers regarding application operation can be handled smoothly.

3. BIM project support
BIM room members are assigned as BIM directors for projects that utilize BIM data. By creating a BIM execution plan, the BIM director clarifies the purpose, roles and responsibilities, data structure, communication, etc., and builds a structure, system, and process.
The “purpose of BIM utilization” varies from project to project. In the past cases, there was a tendency that there were many needs for "CG creation", "point cloud scanning", and "interference check". Currently, we are promoting BIM utilization such as "multi-store format" and "integration with computational design using Rhinoceros".
4. Research/Study on BIM
In the BIM room, there are many people who are interested in convenient functions using the visual programming tool "Dynamo" and "generative design" that generates design proposals, so this is my research theme. For example, ``Dynamo that assigns a layout of tiles on a curved surface'' or ``Layout that avoids denseness with generative design''. From the second half of the year, we launched a "computational circle" and started activities to exchange information and give advice to each other.
The knowledge and techniques that were organized in the BIM room are distributed as videos as "Tips". We also make presentations at an in-house group meeting called "N-RUG" (abbreviation of Nomura Revit User Group).

Also, unfortunately, there are fewer opportunities for real communication due to the corona crisis, but I am researching BIM and BIM-related trends at online information exchange meetings and online seminars with other companies. Young members are very quick to gather information, and I'm always impressed.
Above, we introduced four activities. In addition, we have established an "internal BIM portal site" and a Teams group chat called "BIM team" for internal information transmission and communication.

Introducing the members of NOMURA Co., Ltd. 's "BIM Room"
Currently, the BIM room members are almost teleworking during the corona crisis. I come to the office only on limited occasions, such as first-time meetings, important meetings, and on-site classes. We rarely meet face-to-face, but we hold an online morning meeting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It's a trivial thing, but at the morning meeting, we have a policy of always turning on the screen display so that we can see each other's faces.
There are four activities in the BIM room, but I believe that good communication is essential to cooperate with each other and produce better output.
So far, we have introduced the BIM initiatives of NOMURA GROUP.
Next time, I will report on how the BIM workshop was held!
