Game Changer Catapult (Panasonic) x NOMLAB (NOMURA Co., Ltd.) Talk Event Report

Game Changer Catapult (GCC), an in-house innovation accelerator at Panasonic. On the other hand, Nomura Open Innovation LAB (hereafter, NOMLAB) is working to attract new customers under the theme of "digital innovation x place creation".
How do the two organizations working on the theme of innovation manage their teams, and how do the team members realize their intentions and thoughts?

In the second part, we will tell you about the talk session by the developers, titled "Creativity to Create Spatial Experiences."

A next-generation jukebox? "Howling Box"

From GCC, Mr. Jinya Mizoguchi, who developed "Howling Box", appeared first.
"Howling Box" is a music-based communication service ("Howling Click here for the Box website). It is a service that can be said to be a next-generation jukebox.

The person himself appeared in the introduction movie of "Howling Box". Laughter and applause arose from the venue for the acting that put the actors to shame.

WILL in “Howling Box”

Mr. Mizoguchi said that he liked music and was doing music activities himself. I got a job and was assigned to Gunma Prefecture, where I had no connections or ties. When I tried to communicate with my friends on SNS, I realized that I could not be satisfied with the sharing of music and live experiences that I could have done face-to-face. , it was the trigger of the idea. From there, the idea of modern communication developed, and "Howling Box" was created from the idea that fashion could be born not only from television and mass media but also from more local communication. It seems that
Regarding the future development of "Howling Box", he talked about his thoughts as follows.

When Howling Box enters various shops, I think it would be great if you could find new shops through the atmosphere, such as if you are in a jazz mood but want to eat gyoza, or if you are in a punk mood but want to drink coffee at a coffee shop. I am

"The ROAST" offers the finest coffee experience at home

Next, we were introduced to Hiromi Hashimoto of the "The Roast" project, where you can enjoy roasting coffee at home. Three years after its conception, it is a product that has already been commercialized, involving not only project members but also various stakeholders (click here for "The Roast" website).

WILL in “The ROAST”

Unlike "Howling Box", which was based on personal experiences, "The Roast" utilizes Panasonic's cooking appliance technology and smart home appliance cloud technology to connect producers and consumers. Mr. Hashimoto says that he came up with the idea of creating a food service business that connects directly. It was planned that if people who are particular about coffee can enjoy the finest coffee at home, it will lead to the provision of new experience value.

The Roast

We make full use of the technology that "services improve by updating software" gained through experience in the IoT service business. In addition, we conveyed our thoughts to top-class roasters and coffee import trading companies, and realized a service that provides carefully selected raw beans and roasting profiles (roasting recipes) that match the beans. Thank you for talking to me.

The idea of making the most of the various business technologies that have been cultivated so far is unique to a large company with a long history.

Through “The Roast,” we are able to connect with roasters and create local communities with roasters.
It's also used in co-working spaces, and I've heard that it's necessary for creatives to have time to enjoy the time they make coffee because they can actually feel the aroma and sound of roasting.

I think coffee is not only a drink, but also an experience that can connect people.

Prototype WILL to client work

Keisuke Yoshida from NOMLAB took the stage at the end. I belong to both the design department and NOMLAB, and from the standpoint of working on prototyping at NOMLAB, I talked about how prototypes lead to client work, along with various examples.

My usual work is to think about the design and create the space according to the client's order. Prototyping, on the other hand, is a completely different process of making things by incorporating the perspectives of engineers, designers, and outside creators, and trying to combine them to create something.
The prototyping I was working on last year was the "Kinetic Display" developed in collaboration with amana's prototyping laboratory FIGLAB.
49 motors slide back and forth to create a 3D graphic display (more info here).

Kinetic Display

NOMURA Co., Ltd. which makes a living in space, and amana, who specializes in visual expression. We started by getting to know each other, and while showing each other's areas of expertise, we introduced that the work was created with the desire to "create a 3D graphic display" and "create a media that connects video and space."
In addition, through prototyping, we introduce the latest client work as an example that was utilized in client work (latest example is here).
He said that prototyping is also a place for branding for him, and that it has led to being able to express himself through client work.

The line between prototyping and client work is getting thinner and thinner these days.

I feel that there is an increasing number of jobs that only I can do, even though I am neither of them.

"Howling Box" "The ROAST" Experience

After the talk session, a hands-on experience of “Howling Box” and “The ROAST” was held.

“Howling Box” experience

In addition to listening to explanations from each developer and exchanging impressions of their experiences, they also asked how they challenged new businesses while working in the field, how to utilize new initiatives in their next work, and so on.
It was a lively evening with coffee in one hand and endless discussions about each other's work styles.

Individuals drive companies, and companies change society.
We will continue to pursue “team building that realizes individual WILL”
We would like to share the various initiatives of both companies with many people.
