Experienced by Corona
Staycation & Microtourism

Speaking of March 2020 this year, the new corona expansion period in Japan.
During the period of the government's declaration of a state of emergency, our company was also prohibited from domestic business trips, and we were forced to be unable to go on personal trips. Among them, design hotels and lifestyle hotels in the suburbs of Tokyo, which have been opened one after another in recent years, have emerged as new destinations.
I would like to think about "staycation" and "microtourism" based on my hotel stay experience at this time.

# What is a staycation?

By the way, do you know the word “staycation”?
“Staycation” is a coined word that combines “stay” and “vacation” and means spending time at home or nearby, rather than going somewhere far away.

This word was originally coined in Europe and the United States, but it started to be heard in Japan a few years ago. Furthermore, after the corona disaster, I started to find value in “spending time in the neighborhood”, and I think that it has permeated not only as a word but also as one of the lifestyles.

#What is microtourism?

Next, "micro-tourism" refers to trips to nearby areas (short distances) that can be reached in about 1 to 2 hours from home. Even if you say nearby, there is a range of distances depending on the means of transportation (car, bicycle, foot, train, etc.), and it can be regarded as a surprisingly wide range of tourism. Also, since the word "tourism" is included, the nuance of enjoying sightseeing can be felt more strongly.

# Microtourism = Staycation?

These words have similar images, but I think that "microtourism" and "staycation" are almost synonymous in the sense of "spending time nearby." However, while "micro-tourism" has an image of spreading out and enjoying an area, the word "staycation" is a way of spending time in spots scattered on the surface. enjoy. I had such an image.

This time, NOMURA Co., Ltd. AND was involved in the design"HAMACHO HOTELI decided to stay at

The hotel has a distinctive green facade that catches the eye even from a distance. And maybe because of the effect of the greenery, this hotel doesn't give the impression of being a "hotel". When you enter from the entrance, you will find a stylish yet casual and warm wooden space.

The guest rooms are equipped with well-designed accessories, home appliances, and room wear that feels good to the touch.
(Some of the amenities are also sold in the hotel lobby on the 1st floor.)

And this hotel is equipped with elements that make it easy for people in the city to stop by. The element of this is the two unique stores attached to the hotel.

The design of the space where you can see the manufacturing process and the products using Japanese ingredients such as sansho (Japanese pepper) and yuzu (citrus fruit) were impressive.

Micro Tourism ㏌ Nihonbashi Hamacho Area

Let's go out on the town. The Hamacho area, where "HAMACHO HOTEL" is located, is located in the deepest part of the Nihonbashi area. Therefore, if you don't have a purpose, you probably won't go to the area.

The Nihonbashi Hamacho area, along with the adjacent Ningyocho area, is attracting attention as a gourmet spot known only to those in the know. If you search for restaurants in this area on the internet, you will find a lot of highly rated restaurants, which proves the high level of restaurants in this area.

In the Nihonbashi Hamacho area, for example, there is an affiliated store of Shibuya's legendary standing bar "Fujiya Honten", and this wine bar is bustling with people every day. There are also other unique shops that are unique to the Hamacho area, so be sure to look for them.

In addition, the neighboring Ningyocho area does not have cobblestones, but it has a calm atmosphere similar to Kagurazaka, and has a wide variety of restaurants, from long-established restaurants to casual izakayas. "Amazake Yokocho" is a street name that you can't help but drink.

During my stay at the HAMACHO HOTEL, I was able to enjoy food tourism while walking around the Hamacho and Ningyocho areas, along with the calm atmosphere of this town.

Enjoy the “unusual”. Staycation recommendations

This time, through the hotel stay experience, I learned that there are surprises and discoveries even in the vicinity of Tokyo, and that there are elements that can be enjoyed. Also, I had a strange feeling that it was an extension of my daily life, even though it was out of the ordinary. It was a new realization for me, who lives not far from the Nihonbashi Hamacho area.

I think that “microtourism” and “staycation” have an “extraordinary” aspect in the sense that you can enjoy a space and time different from “everyday life”. On the other hand, it is also true that the meaning of “nearby” is an extension of “everyday life”.
extension of everyday life. But everyday life is different. “Staycation” may have an element of enjoying a different daily life = “unusual life”.

Finally, based on this experience, I tried to summarize the "points to enjoy the staycation".

With Corona, it's an era where you find value in spending time nearby.
