In March 2021, NOMURA Co., Ltd. Co., Ltd. (hereafter: NOMURA Co., Ltd.) opened a new office in the building next to the head office.

Precisely because we are opening in this era, we aimed to explore what is necessary for the workplace of the future in this office.
Among them, RESET SPACE_2 (hereafter: RE/SP_2), which is an employee communication space,
While using the actual space, we are experimentally implementing various contents related to work style, communication, health, etc.

RE/SP_2 is designed with the concept of "UNIQUE PARK" so that unique employees of NOMURA GROUP can spend their time freely.

This time, I will explain the content called UNIQUE / FOOD / SELECTION, which I was in charge of planning, among the many contents.
The name UNIQUE/FOOD/SELECTION means that the unique employees of NOMURA GROUP who gather in this place can choose their favorite meals according to their individuality, and re-experience the "fun of choosing and eating". We hope that you will like it.
In addition, as NOMURA Co., Ltd., which promotes health management, this UNIQUE/FOOD/SELECTION provides employees with a rich food experience with the goal of "raising employees' health awareness."

It is the employees who decide whether they will become healthy or not, and what we can do is to create an opportunity for them to do so.
And I think it's about thinking about how we can provide that opportunity as a positive and fun experience. That is why we place importance on “raising employee health awareness” rather than “making employees healthy”.

The key is an active food experience

"People who cook tend to live longer than those who don't cook."
Based on such previous research, we thought, "Cooking as an example of an active food experience can lead people to healthy eating habits by making it a habit. ” was hypothesized.

Therefore, in this UNIQUE/FOOD/SELECTION, based on that hypothesis, we reaffirmed the joy of choosing and eating by employees, and created the following steps so that we can enjoy the food experience even a little more actively.

Choose the ingredients, choose the plate to serve, choose the environment to eat.
Buying a product is not the end, but actively choosing various experiences related to "food" enriches our daily meals and leads us to a healthy diet.

At the center of the area, the concept and three steps of this project are displayed on fluorescent panels to transmit information.

Step 1 Choose your meal

Meals are served from various vending machines (hereafter referred to as vending machines) so that customers can enjoy choosing their meals according to their mood.

All vending machines are wrapped and painted to blend in with the design of the space.

Anytime, Anyone, Easy

The reason for using vending machines as a method is that the operational burden is low and anyone can easily purchase products at any time. In addition, I think that the fact that you can purchase products without contact and that it can be used as a stockpile in case of emergency will be a great attraction in this day and age.
It may be a very simple thing, but in this place where various employees of NOMURA GROUP with different work styles gather and spend their time freely,
I believe that the most important thing is to be able to eat healthy meals that you like "anytime, anyone, easily".

Offer healthy and plentiful choices

We are devising ways to sell a wide variety of products by preparing frozen and refrigerated vending machines that can sell not only beverages that you often see in the city, but also foods.

In fact, in this place, in addition to the main meals such as rice, bread, side dishes, soup, and salad, there are snacks, fruits, alcohol (available for purchase after work), and other items that accompany employees' breaks. We also have products that activate communication.

A counter is set up so that you can have a chat or a quick meeting with snacks and drinks in one hand. Depending on the surrounding space, the image of the vending machine can be greatly changed.

In addition, we purchased these vending machines ourselves and selected the products inside. In addition, we work in cooperation with group companies to manage operations including product management such as daily ordering and receiving.
As for the products, the food manufacturers who purchase the products from each vending machine are different, so after understanding this project, we will make sure that the products are made with consideration for additives and artificial sweeteners, and the size inside the vending machine. While thinking about what would suit us, we discussed product selection over and over again.

Create a mechanism to make choices fun

Some of the vending machines are designed to make it easier for employees to choose by displaying tags that help them understand their concerns, such as "FIGHT" for employees who want to work hard and "REFRESH" for employees who want to take a break.
In addition, we aim to deepen our understanding of the effects of ingredients through tags and provide an opportunity to reconsider our daily eating habits.

Step 2 Choose a plate

Our taste buds are surprisingly visually influenced.
Convenience store side dishes also feel much more delicious when served on beautiful plates. In order to reaffirm the importance of serving food on such plates, we have prepared a variety of plates with different shapes and colors.

In addition, you can enjoy making your own original set meal by actively choosing authentic tableware such as Hasami ware, Arita ware, and Sori Yanagi cutlery.
In addition, you will notice that the products you normally eat in disposable containers are surprisingly large when served on a plate, which helps prevent overeating. The simple act of arranging the food will nurture the employee's awareness of health and aesthetics, leading to a richer eating habits.

I tried to make an original set meal by serving the products I actually bought from the vending machine on a plate.

Step 3 Choose your environment

Eating at your desk is said to be bad for your health.
If you eat alone, you will naturally eat quickly, and your blood sugar level will rise rapidly, making you sleepy. It also leads to overeating because it doesn't make you feel full. In addition, it is the same as the work environment, so the mind is not rested and the performance in the afternoon is reduced.

Therefore, we prepared a variety of tables and chairs with different colors, materials, shapes, and the number of people seated, in order to reaffirm the richness of choosing the environment in which employees eat. You can look at the Ferris wheel from the window, refresh yourself surrounded by greenery, or sit around a round table with everyone. We believe that employees can enjoy a richer dining experience by actively choosing a comfortable dining environment according to the mood, weather, and number of people eating that day.

Cooperation with external partners

This time, we were working on a different field than our usual work, such as food and health, so we worked on the plan with the support of two reassuring external partners.

Based on previous research that ``people who cook tend to live longer than those who do not,'' and the concept of ``active food experience,'' which is the basis of the concept, we have been working together from the early stages of the project. I got some advice. Click here for the website.

When selecting products for vending machines, we received advice on selection criteria from a nutritional perspective.
In addition, we also cooperated with support for disseminating information to employees, such as four types of tags attached to products and recommended combination menus.

At the end

The work presented here is not complete yet.
I think it is important to keep updating the content by changing the product and devising the method of providing it based on the reaction of the users while continuing to operate it. In addition, once the coronavirus calms down, we plan to hold events related to food and health at this location with the food manufacturers who cooperate with our vending machines and our partners who have cooperated with us, and we also plan to disseminate information to our employees. .
