While various events are being held in different shapes due to the corona crisis,
DESIGNART TOKYO, which celebrated its 4th year this year, also included online talk sessions and exhibitions.
It is held in New Normal style.

With the theme of "POWER TO THE CREATIVES", this year's event was positioned as an effort to restart culture.
Focusing on the connection between the exhibition and the real space, the second part will report on the exhibition at Omotesando Hills and the Roppongi area, which opened on October 27th.

Product exhibition that makes you think of returning to the origin

At Omotesando Hills B3F "Space O", we were greeted by a design firm "NOSIGNER" that works on the theme of social design innovation. A musical note is drawn at a certain distance from the reception counter, and when you step on it, the sound comes from the speaker above. It is hospitality with a wonderful idea of "playing music by people waiting in line".

Light fixtures made from reused beverage cartons, and many products that make use of the original charm of materials such as wood, stone, and soil were impressive.

Among them, the most eye-catching work is "On Stone and Sky" by the design unit "Batten and Kamp" based in Hong Kong. The strength of the stone that supports the seat surface of the metal chair with a simple structure makes us feel the vitality of nature.

customizable lighting

The work exhibited at the AXIS Gallery was M&T's work, which was also featured last year. One is a lighting fixture that emits light from an LED embedded in a string, and you can assemble it yourself using parts stored in a long and narrow cylinder.

Another point is the lighting that adjusts the squeezing yourself like a lens. If you can adjust the light to your liking, your stay home time will be fun.

A gallery that walks together with artists

Next, I visited Nishi-Azabu's gallery "A Lighthouse called Kanata". Torifuku Gallery, which had been in Minami Aoyama for many years, moved to a new location in Kasumicho Terrace, a renovated accommodation facility, and just opened this autumn. A work exhibition was held as an opening ceremony.

When you get off the elevator, the name of the gallery casually appears on the heavy door in front of you. When the door opens, a beautiful space with a dignified appearance spreads out, as if each work of art is floating in the dimly lit space.

When I was looking at the works that caught my attention, the gallerist told me about how the work was created, including exchanges between the artist and the owner. This gallery is based on the theme of "walking together" with the artist, and based on the work brought in by the artist, the stance is to think together about "how to develop it" and create it. That's right.

It is a gallery where you can feel not only the beauty of the design of the exhibition space, but also the lofty aspirations of the gallery, which aims to be a “presence that supports the future of art.”

A gallery where you can feel the past, present and future of Roppongi

Next, we visited “ANB TOKYO,” which also just opened this year. There is a small door in the building where the much-talked-about non-alcoholic bar "0%" is located.

Each of the four floors of the exhibition had its own theme set by a different curator, so every time I got off the elevator, I was able to enjoy a completely different world.

There is a wide variety of exhibition methods, from miscellaneous items placed on the floor to those utilizing backyard spaces that are generally hidden.

This is a gallery operated by the general incorporated foundation Tokyo Art Acceleration, and the building from the 2nd floor to the 7th floor has been renovated. I feel that it symbolizes the city of Roppongi in that it transforms into various expressions by adding exhibits to the bare space that is used as it is.

DESIGNART TOKYO 2020 presented a new form of event. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of new perspectives I can see next year.
