refraining from going out

It's been about 4 months since the last post, episode5. Hello, this is Hideki who is refraining from going out.

During Golden Week in May, it was my annual event to load up my car with camping gear and go on a solo trip to the Izu Peninsula (similar to the popular solo camping), and it was my own kind of refreshment time. , Unfortunately, it didn't come true this year... (crying)

However, I was able to use that time to declutter and clean my house, so the inside of the house has become refreshed.
Could it be refreshing in a different way?

What day is May 23rd?

It's sudden, but do you know what day May 23rd is, which is close to the date when this article will be uploaded?

Oh my God world turtle day  What is it! ※as a side note kiss day It seems that there is also.

I couldn't find the reason why this day is turtle day,
American non-profit organization American Tortoise Rescue established World Turtle Day in 2000 (Heisei 12).
“It is a day to bring attention to, educate and respect turtles, and encourage their actions for their survival and prosperity.”

I introduced it in episode 3, but for me, who is taking care of the freshwater turtle hatchlings that were swept out to sea on my veranda when I was walking on the beach, I thought, "It's kind of a fateful day~". I felt it, so I introduced it.
Come to think of it, I remembered that I met two of our four protected turtles on the beach at this time of year.
I wonder if it has something to do with Turtle Day ~?

By the way, in early March, four of them hibernating on the veranda woke up safely (I worry about them every winter, so that's a relief).
And this spring, we made a new big gauge so that the turtles can live comfortably!

*The two-layer structure of “pond and land” is designed to make effective use of the space, with the habitability of the turtles as the top priority.

During their hibernation, the turtles, who are growing bigger and bigger day by day, come up with ideas so that they do not feel cramped.
Using a pestle handle I took a long time ago, I drew a diagram in my head, searched for the largest plastic container (the plastic boat for mixing cement was the largest) to make an aquarium at a home center, and bent a 100-yen uniform wire net. And so on, we completed the production activities steadily and steadily.
Under the artificial grass terrace for sunbathing, there is a hidden space to reduce the stress of the turtles, and it also helps to make use of the limited space.
During the day when the sun shines, they dry their shells on the artificial grass on the second floor, and at night they hide under it and sleep in the water.

As a spin-off of Nagisahoki, I would like to tell you about the turtles at my house, which are drifting objects on the beach.

What are your local beaches like?

Spring 2020 under the spread of the [COVID-19] epidemic surrounding the world
For the past two months, I have refrained from going out, and I have hardly been to the local beach that I used to go to every weekend.
By the way, since the "Emergency Declaration" was issued, the Shonan coast has often been covered by the media with many people visiting for surfing and sightseeing. Kudan's walking beach What is the current status of

The other day, on a sunny day, I went to see the coast just a little bit, also to relieve my lack of exercise.
Now that you can't go out as much as you want, I hope you can read it with the feeling of going out for a walk!

* A brand-new WARNING sign calling for self-restraint from marine sports that did not exist before

At the embankment at the usual entrance to the beach, a new sign was installed calling for the prohibition of surfing and marine sports. On this day, the sea breeze was blowing strongly and the ocean conditions were not suitable for surfing.

I landed on the beach

I was curious about the beach situation and just came to see what was going on, so I didn't intend to stay long. Especially.

*We found a package of sweets from the Showa era and a spray can with Hangul letters.

A strong southerly wind had been blowing for a long time recently, and a lot of drifting objects had reached the beach.

As usual, walking crunchy on the sandy beach in my bare feet Crocs, I was looking at the debris that had washed up on the beach. I found a spray can with huge Hangul characters printed on it!

The yellow cylindrical package with the word "LEMON DRY" written in red is a container for domestically produced lemon-flavored tablets (soft candy) released in the 1960s. There was a notation of "50 yen". It's been a long time since I've met you and I feel nostalgic. It's a product that was discontinued a long time ago, so young people probably don't know about it~

A few years ago, I remember being in charge of finding and displaying successive product packages, especially those from the time they were first released, for the 100th anniversary project of a certain confectionery company. This shipwreck has lost its cap (container lid), but what kind of journey did it take over the years?

As for spray cans with Hangul characters, I can't read the characters at all, so I have no idea what the product is for.
The clue is only a small illustration like a leaf. Did it flow all the way from South Korea (it's not North Korea, is it?)?

On the surface of the can, there was an attached organism that seems to be [Karueboshi].
Karueboshi is a crustacean (a member of the shrimp crab family) that looks like a clam and lives by eating plankton while adhering to sea flotsam and floating on the surface of the sea. Evidence of attached organisms suggests that it has been drifting in the sea for a long time.

I was able to come across a valuable drifting object on my first beach walk in a long time.
In addition to the above, I was also impressed by the corpses of deadly poisonous jellyfish (Katsuonoeboshi) and freshwater reef turtles, which are often seen from spring to summer.

the sea is there

Even in the world of the pandemic, where people's lives have changed completely, the sea is there as a matter of course, and there has been no change in the activities of the beach where new drifting objects arrive on the beach. Of course, I knew that nothing had changed, but after actually walking along the beach, I felt a little relieved when I walked home.

No! Don't be relieved, we all have to change the sea where household garbage is floating.  right.

* A piece of debris thought to be part of a boat with barnacles on its surface. Where did it come from, how long did it drift in the sea, and how did it arrive here?

At the end of the previous article, episode 5, I announced that "Next time, we're planning to deliver a quiz about drifting objects," so I was preparing for that, but I wanted to tell you about the current state of the coast and my feelings. I changed the contents.
The drifting object quiz is next time!

*Okamoto-kun's article "Planners go to aquariums."
Sakaki's article "It's like a picture book about traveling in the sea. The experience story of Oga Aquarium"
I also appeared in the aquarium travel diary that traveled Tohoku with them, so be sure to check out that article!
